Blood can reveal a lot about a person, because it is essentially the carrier of life and destiny. Did you know that there is even a diet based on blood type, which used to be very fashionable? Some fats are still interested in this and study the list of permitted products.
It should be said right away that this technique has been repeatedly criticized by doctors and has no scientific basis. But caution is advised, so let's try to find out everything about this diet.
History of the diet
There was once a time when people believed that everyone had the same blood. Do you remember the fairy tale of Mowgli? "You and I are of the same blood – you and I! "But soon after they tried to share their blood with the sick and wounded, the theory arose that the blood was actually different.
Many scientific studies and experiments were carried out with animals and humans, but it was not until 1900 that Karl Landsteiner discovered three blood groups and a little later the fourth by his students.
Currently the world has adopted an alphanumeric classification:
- O or I – first;
- A (II) – second;
- B (III) – third;
- AB (IV) – fourth.
The most common blood groups worldwide are the first and second blood groups. Its carriers are 80% of all humanity. The third variant is rarer at 15% and the fourth is considered the rarest and is only represented in 5%.
American naturopath Peter D'Adamo suggested at the end of the 20th century that if some human diseases are directly related to genetic characteristics and often depend on blood type, then a diet based on blood type is probably also possible. He asked each of his patients about their preferences for certain foods and put together the right diet for each group. All products were divided into useful, undesirable and neutral.
D'Adamo has written several books on the subject of nutrition. They were a huge success with American readers and became bestsellers. Then his concept "4 Blood Types - 4 Ways to Health" spread around the world and everyone who wanted to lose weight rushed to try the new diet.
What is she?
Basic principles and rules
Nutrition by blood group boils down to the following.
- At each stage of human evolution there was a specific diet. When it changed, the blood mutated and a new group appeared. And that's why there is a basic set of products for each group.
- To keep your body in tip-top shape, you need to eat the way your ancestors with a certain blood type did. Thanks to the biochemical connection between blood and food, the "right" foods are absorbed better, digested more quickly, metabolism is boosted and the immune system is strengthened.
- If you exclude "wrong" foods from your diet, you can improve the body's performance, promote health and prolong life.
An example is moving to another habitat or even tourism, when the local unusual cuisine is not accepted by the body and health problems arise.
If a resident of the Far North, who has eaten fatty protein foods all his life, decides to move to Europe with its high-carbohydrate cuisine, there is a high risk of diabetes and digestive problems.
You don't even have to go far to find examples, just look around. Some people hate milk, others prefer plant-based foods, and others simply starve if they don't eat a large piece of meat. Maybe this is not without reason?
General dining table for all groups
Let's explore the research of Dr. D'Adamo, who classified foods by blood type, highlighting forbidden, permitted and neutral foods.
Legend:
- Products that should be limited are marked with a "-" sign;
- allowed – "+";
- neutral – "0".

Diet according to blood group 1
The most common in the world is the first positive blood group. It is most common among the Eastern Slavs and Indians.
People with the first blood group are universal donors, that is, this blood group is suitable for absolutely everyone. By the way, mosquitoes prefer the first blood group more than any other.
Characteristics of eating behavior (hunter, meat eater)
Absolutely all ancient people who lived in a primitive community system had the first blood group, and all the others arose through mutation.
Now remember the history of antiquity, archaeological excavations and the conclusions of scientists: 40, 000 years ago, primitive peoples lived by hunting and gathering. Their main diet consisted of meat, meat and more meat, and only then of roots, herbs and the few edible fruits and berries that grew wild in the forests.
Thus, the owners of the first group carry the genes of the oldest hunters and their body needs as much protein as possible at the gene level. Unfortunately the diet is the worst. If you decide to follow such a diet, you will have to give up a variety of your favorite foods.
The diet of the first blood group includes meat, fish and vegetables. It is better not to consume milk and dairy products at all.

Diet according to blood group 2
No less common group. It is literally a few hundred years younger than the first and arose through mutation after the ancient hunters decided to settle in a permanent place and do agricultural work.
People with blood group 0 produce more of the hormone cortisol, which helps cope with stress. In addition, they are unfortunately prone to alcoholism.
Characteristics of eating behavior (farmer)
25, 000 years ago, carnivorous hunters learned to cultivate the land and receive its bounties. This is the beginning of the development of the agricultural way of life. People began to build settlements, cultivate fields, and grow grain and vegetables.
There was less protein-rich food, animals moved away from people, and meat became harder to come by.
Sometimes the second blood group is called "vegetarians". Most of its speakers live in Europe.
The diet of people with the second blood group should include vegetarian dishes, fish, poultry and dairy products. However, it is advisable to avoid coffee, beans and meat.

Diet according to blood group 3
The third group is quite rare and more typical of Asian peoples - they were once famous for their huge herds of livestock - horses, cows, goats and sheep. Of course, they had to move from place to place to feed the animals.
Peculiarities of eating behavior (nomad)
As soon as milk and dairy products were actively introduced into the diet, and this happened about 10, 000 years ago, the blood mutated again.
In Asia, most people live with the third blood group - these are hereditary nomads.
This type of people is the most fortunate - they have practically no limitations, they are omnivores. Semi-finished products, smoked meats and alcohol must be excluded.

The fourth group emerged from the mixing of the second and third groups after people began to live in large settlements and cities.
People with blood group IV are more likely to suffer from senile dementia and Alzheimer's disease. But they are also universal donors of plasma, which is very valuable in the treatment of burns.
Peculiarities of eating behavior (puzzles)
This blood is the youngest, its age does not exceed two thousand years. It is truly unique in its composition and resistant to autoimmune and allergic diseases.
These people eat a mixed diet and there are hardly any dietary restrictions. However, it is advisable to consume as many natural, organic foods as possible.

Does Rh factor affect diet?
We know from school that there are four blood groups in total and their number doubles when the Rh factor is taken into account. It was first discovered after research on rhesus monkeys, which is why it got its name. The Rh factor can be positive and is referred to as (Rh+) or negative (Rh-). It indicates the presence or absence of an antigen (protein) located on the surface of red blood cells (erythrocytes).
However, in fact, the division of blood into only four groups is arbitrary - if we take into account all the properties of blood, there will be many more of them. D'Adamo ignores this fact.
In D'Adamo's famous book, the influence of the Rh factor is not mentioned at all. Since more than 80% of the world's population has a positive Rh factor, the diet is tailored specifically to these people.
Contraindications to the diet
Without prior consultation with your doctor, people with the following diseases are prohibited from following an independent diet:
- diabetes mellitus;
- chronic digestive problems;
- hematopoietic disorder;
- ARVI.
In addition, if the symptoms of the disease worsen, it is not advisable to go on a diet until you get better.
Under no circumstances should you experiment on yourself while pregnant or breastfeeding; remember that you are responsible not only for your life, but also for the baby.
Reviews from those wanting to lose weight
- "This is an ideal diet for people who have no health problems. However, if you are overweight, a priori there are all sorts of diseases, so the diet no longer works. It is, of course, convenient that there is a large selection of products, but this method did not suit me - the doctor banned the consumption of all the products allowed in the table. It turns out that the table contradicts the doctor's recommendations by almost 90%. "
- "I have no medical training, but I can clearly see the major disadvantages – the diet is completely unscientific. One of them is that people in the second group should rely on vegetarian food, and those who belong to the third and fourth groups, although they are omnivores, are descended precisely from the second. In general, I won't even try. "
- "In a few months I lost 10 kg! The blood type diet is very cool, it is easy to lose weight. I think you can stick to this diet for the rest of your life. I recommend this wonderful diet to anyone who wants to lose weight! "
- "The blood type diet is complete nonsense. Don't torture yourself with these healthy, harmful and neutral products. Eat everything in moderation, without fanaticism. If you want something sweet, eat 1-2 candies, not a whole bar of chocolate; if you want bread, cut a piece and eat it, but don't starve. "
- "I showed the approved products for the second blood group at work - the whole team laughed, wiped away tears and ate a meat cutlet (yes, yes, half of our team are "farmers"). To be honest, I have never"I've seen a stupider and more completely unacceptable diet! "
Opinions and criticism from doctors
The blood test diet was not approved by doctors. After all, each person is so individual that it is necessary to conduct complex research and have data on more than sixty specific genes responsible for endocrine and enzymatic activity, and only then create a diet. And the blood group in this case is a factor that can be generalized and cannot be held responsible for the correctness of the menu of a particular person.
Therefore, doctors are clearly convinced that D'Adamo's theory has no scientific basis, is little researched, but does not cause any particular harm. And in some cases it even helps to stimulate the body and activate an accelerated metabolism.
In addition, D'Adamo included truly harmful products among the prohibited foods for all blood types - sausages and smoked meats, store-bought sauces, ice cream, carbonated drinks, alcohol and some others.
Well, don't forget about the placebo effect - a person believes and loses weight.
Advantages and disadvantages of the diet
Advantages:
- a huge list of approved products;
- easy to carry;
- the ability to create a varied and balanced menu;
- you can hold on to it for a long time.
Defects:
- There is no clear plan as to how, when and in what quantities certain products should be consumed.
- the diet has no scientific basis, all conclusions are too general;
- another lucrative business for nutritionists and of course for the creator himself.
Diploma
As practice shows, some people were actually able to lose weight on this diet. However, they find that the results are not permanent - the weight inevitably returns. So you have to eat right for most of your life.
